AIR Index – emissions data to help the economy

New real-world data on vehicle emissions will allow revitalisation of an automotive industry and global economy devastated by the COVID-19 outbreak but with cleaner air and reduced impact on climate change.

The AIR Index at airindex.com identifies the cleanest cars, giving buyers confidence to switch to cleaner vehicles, restoring an automotive industry badly impacted by the pandemic.

The freely available ratings database is the result of rigorous testing according to the legal standard method, CWA17379. It details real-world nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

It shows that clean and efficient vehicles, which have low NOx and low CO2 emissions already exist, without having to wait for new technology at scale.

Nick Molden, co-founder of AIR said: “As the world emerges from the impact of COVID-19, legislators, manufacturers and buyers have an opportunity to focus on the cars that will limit the rise in pollution generated by economic recovery.

Published by the AIR Alliance (AIR), the AIR Index demonstrates the risk of selecting vehicles based only on the official emissions figures that are not detailed enough to identify the cleanest cars. A Euro 6 vehicle may be clean, or it may be dirty, but the official data do not give enough clarity to differentiate.

The AIR Alliance is a growing group of international organisations that share a vision. You can read more about us, the AIR Index and access the data for yourself at airindex.com.

Tenneco launches new GOETZE® range of industrial ignition solutions

Built to last, designed for simpler servicing, the new GOETZE range of industrial spark plugs provides a proven solution for industrial gas engines

Tenneco Inc.´s (NYSE:TEN) Powertrain business group is launching a range of new GOETZE® branded industrial spark plugs, designed for industrial gas engines. With proven durability for these applications, GOETZE plugs are designed and manufactured for robust, reliable service.

The four new GOETZE industrial spark plugs are designated: G-6001, G-6002, G-6003, and G-6004. These are suitable for power generation applications, including natural gas, biogas, landfill gas and mine gas. Tenneco will continue to offer industrial ignition products under the Champion® brand for use in traditional gas engines for power generation and Oil & Gas industry.

The GOETZE range of industrial spark plugs features a series of design advances. Installation and removal is easier thanks to a design that makes the familiar 7/8-inch (22.2mm) hexagon much higher, giving installation tools a stronger grip. The new spark plugs also feature large, smooth insulators that use stronger ceramics and a more robust steel shell.

In testing on Jenbacher Type 3 engines, the GOETZE G-6001 plugs achieve lifetimes of over 10,000 hours. The G-6001’s solid design and high-strength nickel-plated shell are engineered to withstand more dynamic combustion pressures. The industrial spark plug is produced using GOETZE’s unique hot-locking assembly process, sealing the shell. The unribbed insulator with a monoblock SAE terminal pin provides an enhanced connection with ignition leads. Advanced laser welds increase thermal conductivity, helping improve wear behavior and increase lifetime.

The new GOETZE G-6002 plugs achieve the same 10,000+ hour lifetime in tests on Jenbacher Type 4 engines using a robust design suitable for high-turbulence combustion applications. The GOETZE G-6003 offers a cost-effective, maintenance-free solution with a lifetime of more than 4,000 hours in Jenbacher Type 3 engines. The GOETZE G-6004 provides more than 2,000 hours of maintenance-free operation for Jenbacher Type 6 and Type 9 engine applications with high BMEP values.

An agency for automotive’s evolving PR needs

Specialist communications agencies Newspress Creative and Market Engineering have merged to create loop, an exciting new agency designed from the ground up to meet the evolving PR needs of the automotive industry.

Centrally located in the thriving Bicester Motion campus, loop offers something truly unique with creative consumer-facing comms and highly technical B2B expertise coming together under one roof.

The aim: to create an agency specifically to help companies across the automotive sector thrive and accelerate their growth through top-class communications in a fast-paced and ever evolving environment.

The loop name is inspired by the infinity loop logo used by parent company Newspress: the ‘looping’ together of the two agencies into one and the prevalence of loops in the automotive world – everything from racing circuits to steering wheels.

It also neatly describes the new agency’s full-service offering that includes everything from creative concepts and content creation, through to event planning and management to distribution and professional media monitoring and insight.

While loop works with dozens of clients across the full automotive spectrum, it also has a number of key specialisms including advanced automotive engineering, classic motoring and commercial vehicles.

A talented and award-winning team, spearheaded by Matt Sanger and Mal Hay, will continue to serve the needs of clients.

Matt said: “There has never been a more dynamic and rapidly evolving phase in the history of the automotive industry. We’ve designed loop as an agency to deliver against the communication challenges in a new world where classic, current, modern and future all merge in a mix of truly compelling technology and engineering stories that need telling.”

Mal added: “The launch of loop is a really exciting step for us and we have some big ambitions for the future.”
