An original teaser campaign targeting the general public from 1 December
For this very special launch, Renault worked with Publicis Conseil to put together a teaser campaign that is exceptional not only in terms of its form but also its scope, since it is launching three months ahead of the official reveal.

The theme of the campaign: “R5VOLUTION IS BACK”.
Launched in 1972, at a time of social and societal turmoil, R5 shook up the automotive industry with its revolutionary approach to cars. In 2024, Renault is starting another revolution against a different backdrop: the energy transition, the location of production in France and the need for energy sobriety. And it is out to publicise this imminent comeback with a campaign taking in the whole of Europe.

The campaign reveals the first iconic features of the future vehicle’s exterior design, starting with the 5 logo. The logo will be available in a choice of three colours, which will also be found on the production model: yellow, blue and green.

The largely concealed vehicle is systematically accompanied by a QR code linked to the renault.fr/R5 website.  This site reveals a little more about the future vehicle with a series of details illustrated by key words: R5DESIGNED, R5NERGISED, R5DIGITALISED, R5SOURCEFUL, R5LOCALISED, R5VOLUTION IS BACK. The website also includes details of the special  R5 R Pass , for customers wanting to be among the first to order and receive their Renault 5 E-Tech electric on launch.

MAHLE sets the global standard for wireless charging

  • SAE International chooses the MAHLE positioning system as the global standard solution for the wireless charging of electric vehicles
  • Key technology closes the crucial gap in standardization
  • Cross-manufacturer solution enables a comprehensive and rapid market launch
  • MAHLE CEO Arnd Franz: “A strong impetus for e-mobility.”
MAHLEInductiveCharge

Inductive – i.e. wireless – charging of electric vehicles is much more convenient as there is no need to fiddle with cables or search for a charging station with a suitable plug. MAHLE has developed a positioning system that allows an electric vehicle to be simply, reliably and precisely aligned above the charging coil in the floor. SAE International has now chosen the MAHLE positioning system as the global standard solution for wireless charging. The internationally renowned non-profit association for the progress of mobility technologies, based in the USA, thus closes the last gap in standardization of inductive charging that has been unfilled for ten years. The cross-manufacturer solution from MAHLE now paves the way for the comprehensive and rapid market launch of this attractive alternative to wired charging for batteries and electric and hybrid vehicles. “MAHLE is setting standards. The renowned SAE’s decision in favor of our technology confirms the systems expertise of MAHLE in electrification as well. This will be a strong impetus for e-mobility,” said Arnd Franz, Chairman of the MAHLE Management Board and CEO.

The MAHLE positioning system DIPS (Differential Inductive Positioning System) represents a paradigm shift in the field of e-mobility. It is based on a magnetic field and automatically establishes a connection with the controlled charging point as the electric vehicle approaches. A special navigation system in the vehicle display supports the driver, and the car is soon in the ideal position. The charging process begins automatically. This also works with an autonomous parking vehicle, where the parking system receives the necessary positioning instructions instead of the driver. Thanks to the unique MAHLE positioning system, the parking process can be carried out very easily and reproducibly in one go. And this also applies to unfavorable environmental conditions such as snow cover or wet leaves on the bottom plate.

For the wireless charging of electric vehicles, all components relating to both the infrastructure and the vehicle side must be standardized. Only then can both the vehicle manufacturers and the infrastructure providers bring a solution to market that ensures compatibility regardless of the manufacturer. MAHLE will make its solution accessible to the entire industry via a license model under FRAND (fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory) conditions.

The broad applicability of the system will also enable mobile applications in the future, such as charging via induction coils while driving. MAHLE has also formulated the standard for this together with Electreon Wireless.

In terms of charging infrastructure, MAHLE has long relied on wireless charging, which is a convenient and promising alternative for electric vehicles. “Siemens and Witricity are two strong partners at our side with whom we are jointly advancing the complete system of charging infrastructure and automotive engineering,” said Dr. Harald Straky, Head of Corporate Research and Advanced Engineering at MAHLE.

More than 128,000 engineers and technology experts from the aerospace, automotive and commercial vehicle industries are organized in SAE International. SAE develops global technology standards, including the standardization of the vehicle identification number.

Milltek Sport adds a rich soundtrack to the UK’s most luxurious 4x4s

  • Milltek Sport launches performance stainless steel exhaust systems for the INEOS Grenadier and Range Rover P530 4.4-litre twin turbo
  • INEOS Grenadier system is believed to be the first-to-market, giving the distinctive 4×4 the soundtrack to complement its uncompromised, purposeful style
  • Milltek Sport systems build on the factory exhaust with superior aesthetics and durability, being constructed from aircraft grade T304L stainless steel
  • Enhanced exhausts mount to the original fixings and follow the route of the factory system, ensuring easy fitting and uncompromised off-road ability

Milltek Sport, the premium performance exhaust specialist, has given two of the UK’s latest and most prestigious 4x4s the sound to match their imposing looks and go-anywhere ability.

The company, which has recently celebrated 40 years at the forefront of the UK’s tuning scene, has applied its exhaust expertise to the INEOS Grenadier and the Range Rover P530.

Milltek Sport has replaced the factory exhausts of both luxury off-roaders with upgraded, more aggressive-sounding stainless steel systems that also offer improvements in aesthetics, durability and driving dynamics. As well as giving both a more distinctive sound, the freer-flowing exhausts also pave the way for further modifications should owners wish to explore the tuning potential of the formidable 4x4s.

After debuting the prototype of its INEOS Grenadier system on the business’s own demo vehicle at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Milltek Sport has now finalised the production version. Believed to be the first-to-market performance exhaust for the strikingly different, 3.0-litre BMW-engined SUV, the system features a 3-inch bore and is available as a particulate filter-back system with a choice of polished, Cerakote black, carbon, brushed or burnt/blue titanium tips. Prices start at £872.

Milltek Sport also has plans to complement the performance exhaust with an exterior styling package for the INEOS Grenadier, which will follow the additions to its own version that is thought to be the UK’s first modified example of the recently-introduced off-roader.

Likewise, Milltek Sport has used its own Range Rover P530 to accelerate development and be one of the first to offer an enhanced system for the latest 4.4-litre, twin turbo version of the British icon.

The new Particulate Filter-back system retains the OEM valve functionality and is supplied with a Milltek Sport Valve Controller to allow for full control. The exhaust also has an active centre section with discreet downturned tips, while the sound is now more reminiscent of that of the previous, performance-focused 5.0-litre V8 Range Rover SVR. The system is priced from £3,811.

Designed, developed, and manufactured in the UK, the Milltek Sport systems for both luxury 4x4s mount to the original fixings and follow the route of the original factory exhausts, ensuring easy installation and that off-road capability is not compromised. As with all Milltek Sport exhausts, they are constructed from aircraft-grade T304L stainless steel. T304L is a highly durable form of stainless steel that is far less susceptible to degradation and discolouration than many others of its kind, while it will last almost indefinitely.

Semiconductor drought could soon become a flood of chips

Semiconductor drought could soon become a flood of chips

The semiconductor shortage that has plagued the automotive industry for much of the last two years may soon be turned on its head, says in-vehicle connectivity pioneer VNC Automotive, as a lack of chips critical for high-tech features suddenly becomes a glut.

“It’s ironic that the very situation that triggered the shortage for much of the automotive industry should be driving the recovery, now that it has become reversed due to the prospect of recession,” says Tom Blackie, CEO, VNC Automotive.

EV and hybrid drivers without breakdown cover vulnerable to unqualified recovery agents with ‘a truck and tow hook’

EV and hybrid drivers without breakdown cover

Motorists running modern EVs and hybrids, who are tempted to cut costs by not investing in roadside assistance, could be in for a shock from unskilled recovery agents warns leading breakdown provider Start Rescue.

As people tighten their belts, breakdown cover is often the first thing to go. But that could end up being a false economy and particularly for those with electric cars and hybrids.
