Driving the Future – the road ahead for the automotive industry

In 2019 Driving the Future surveyed 3,000 UK transport users, and for the 2020 follow up the team at 7th Sense Research UK Ltd. wanted to see just how have things changed.

Like the rest of the world, the transport sector has shifted massively over the last 12 months and, with return of some lockdown measures, how much of this is here to stay and what will the long term effects of COVID-19 be?

With the publication of the final part of the trilogy, the results from this year’s Driving the Future survey are now available free as three separate reports: Transport Use, Attitudes to Autonomy and We’re only Human After All.

The first looks at the revolution taking place in the UK’s transport habits, while the second questions the public’s acceptance of autonomous technology. The final part examines the most important component, the nuts holding the steering wheels, humans. Do we really still want to own cars and why?

Fun, it turns out, is fundamental and people really do enjoy the physical experience of driving. As a species we don’t want to feel out of control and just the thought of automation makes us feel less safe.

Providing invaluable research, these reports are designed to help OEMs, transport providers, governments and planners see how public perception will drive demand for mobility for the foreseeable future.
