Footman James: Speaking to the people who keep old metal alive

Nobody falls in love with an insurance policy. They fall in love with the car in the garage; the bike under a dust sheet; the smell of petrol on a Sunday morning; the excuse to drive 40 miles for a bacon roll and then spend three hours talking about carburettors, seized bolts and whether something from 2003 is a classic yet.

That’s the world Footman James lives in. It’s also the world loop has been writing about for years.

As one of the UK’s best-known specialist classic vehicle insurers, Footman James does more than provide cover. It sits inside a community of owners, restorers, clubs, and businesses that care deeply about keeping older vehicles on the road.

Our job has been to help Footman James speak to that world properly. That means creating features, articles and social content that feel like they belong in the classic scene, not next to it. Anything from practical advice for owners to a thoughtful piece on what sustainability means when your pride and joy is older than you are.

We also support Footman James’ Coffee & Chrome events, getting out among the cars and the people who own them. We capture the stories behind the vehicles and work with photographers to ensure each event lives on long after everyone has driven home.

The biggest expression of that thinking has been the award-winning Indicator report. Rather than another dry industry download, it became a proper state-of-the-nation look at the classic vehicle sector, asking what the community looks like today and what it might need to become tomorrow. It mixed original research with real enthusiast voices, industry commentary and the kind of details only car people would stop to notice. It explored a scene that is older than many of the cars in it, but still changing fast: younger owners coming through, modern classics finding their moment, environmental pressure growing and thousands of cherished vehicles still waiting for their next chapter.

For Footman James, it gave the brand something more useful than a content calendar. It gave it a voice in the bigger conversation about the future of classic vehicles.

That’s because good content for this audience cannot just admire the chrome. It has to understand the people polishing it.
